Lonza news post

Congratulations to our Junior and Senior Lonza Scientists of the Year! Students from Years 10 and 13 visited Lonza Biologics in Slough to present their scientific research to a panel of judges, for this annual competition sponsored by Lonza. As part of the day they toured the labs - a rare chance to see real science being carried out in industry, and to experience life at a local high technology employer. Their journey had begun last year, winning their class research competitions and then going through a further stage of judging with a panel of teachers. Juniors were given a choice of three subject areas, whereas seniors had free rein to pursue any subject of interest to them.

Junior finalists:

  • Cezar & Rajesh - The Power of Carbon-Based Nanotechnology
  • Charlotte & Jiya - Nanotechnology: The Tiny Solution to Big Problems
  • Izzy & Lucy - Quantum Computing
  • Kais & Anam - Rewriting Health: How Your Microbiome Tells a Unique Story
  • Kia & Alicia - Small Solutions, Big Impact: Unveiling the Power of Nanomedicine

Senior finalists:

  • Eva - To What Extend Can Physics Help Humanity Survive?
  • Joshua - The Importance of Astronomy
  • Martin - Quantum Entanglement

The judges commented that the standard of presentations was superb, and the decision was very difficult. Congratulations to all students who made it to the final, and particularly to the junior winners Kia & Alicia and the senior winner Joshua.
