The Science Department held its annual Science Fair at BGS showcasing the topics in a fun and interactive way. Our pupils had a great time. Here's a report from Khushi in Year 9;
"A science fair, what a great way to educate people and execute it in a fun way! The Burnham Grammar science fair was an absolute hit. There was slime-making, titration even looking at your own hair through the big screen!
As we entered through the hall doors, we did not expect to be invited to an extraordinary event! There were many people helping out from all different sciences. Many people were especially intrigued by the chemistry experiments. It was such a delight to see many people helping out as it definitely inspired people that science is not just learning about atoms. Everyone was so eager to do the slime experiment but I wanted to see what else there was. Looking around the room, I could see microscopes and a camera that shows you your hair up close. All of us were very intrigued by this so we went to see the microscopes and there was moving bacteria! It was quite scary to look at, I can’t believe we have bacteria on us - the thought of those horrid moving things crawling on us is disgusting. Next up, we went to the slime-making experiment before there was any crowd and it was very riveting. It reminded me of being a child again when I made slime but it was not nearly as good as the one we made at the fair. They used glue, borax and activator which made it all stick together to create slime. We could even choose our own colour which I found very fun - it was mostly independent but I did enjoy doing this. It was very fun and definitely a great experience which I would like to be a part of next time when there is another science fair."
