Edexcel 9-1 GCSE Business

KS4 Business 

The Business course leads to one GCSE grade.

Students can expect to learn in a variety of different formats with an emphasis on projects to exemplify real life application of content, theoretical consolidation of learning and development of exam technique to ensure preparation for the demanding nature of the examinations.  Students will be expected to fully participate in lessons through class discussion, leading presentations and developing points of view to form chains of reasoning.

Subject Content

Students will study Business in a variety of contexts that include small start-up, charities, to large multinational corporations.

In Year 9 students will start by exploring the world of small businesses through the lens of an entrepreneur. How and why do business ideas come about? What makes a successful business? Students will learn how to develop an idea, spot an opportunity and turn it into a successful business. Students will understand how to make a business effective, manage money and see how the world around us affects small businesses and all the people involved. In Year 10 students will move on to investigating business growth. How does a business develop beyond the start-up phase? The focus will be upon learning about key business concepts and issues and decisions required when growing a business and working in a global business. Specific topics include meeting customer needs, marketing, operational, financial and human resourcing decisions and how the wider world impacts the business as it grows.

Assessment:

Students are assessed on their ability to demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the specified subject content; apply knowledge and understanding using appropriate terms, concepts, theories and methods effectively to address problems and issues; select, organise, interpret and use information from various sources to analyse problems and issues; evaluate evidence, make reasoned judgements and present conclusions accurately and appropriately using a mixture of both quantitative and qualitative data.
